I have been reading BHG for years. I think the content is excellent, but the design standards do not match the quality of the content. I decided to re-design this magazine because the color themes and masthead were overbearing.
They have had several looks throughout the years, so I decided to revamp one of their old covers and allow that aesthetic to guide the rest of the publication. Here is the elevated and more sophisticated version of the classic Better Homes & Gardens.
Urban Farm
This is another magazine that I re-designed for a class project. Many of the articles focused on people living in metropolitan areas, but the imagery never had any cities or apartments. I allowed the photography to guide the design for a young and urban reader base.
Koins for Kenya
Earlier this year I was an intern at Koins for Kenya, a non-profit organization. As part of my internship, I organized and designed a newsletter that was sent to donors and expedition participants. I had them printed so they could be folded at the half page and secured with a sticker. I also uploaded the newsletter to facebook and onto their website.
BYU Wellness Newsletters
As a campus designer, I re-designed the template for the BYU Wellness newsletter. The previous newsletter had gradients, curvy shapes and photos cropped into rounded rectangles.
For my re-design I chose to focus on 3 things: topic, grey scale, and info-graphics.
I read through the content and pushed the nutritionists and dietetic majors to give me more content that I could organize. We received great feedback on the new design.
Wonderful Children's Stories
During my last college semester, I wanted to work on a book project. For my project I wanted to practice digital calligraphy and end up with a series of books. All of the calligraphy was hand-drawn and fine-tuned in Adobe Illustrator.
